Educational Leader | Former Chief Executive Officer, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS)
Dr. Monica Goldson is a visionary educational leader and former CEO of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), the 20th largest district in the U.S. A graduate of PGCPS, Dr. Goldson dedicated over 30 years to advancing student achievement and educational equity in the same school system where she began her career as a mathematics teacher.
Rising quickly through PGCPS administrative roles, Dr. Goldson spearheaded numerous initiatives that expanded educational access and excellence. She launched pioneering dual enrollment programs, created STEM pathways, and oversaw a historic public-private partnership to build six new middle schools, the first of its kind in the U.S. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the rapid shift to virtual learning, securing resources like laptops and internet access for students in need. Under her leadership, PGCPS gained national recognition for Advanced Placement success.
Dr. Goldson’s influence extends beyond PGCPS. Appointed by President Joe Biden to the President’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs, she is also a member of Chiefs for Change and has received awards such as the Washington Business Journal’s "Women Who Mean Business" and Washingtonian’s "Most Powerful Women."
Dr. Goldson holds degrees from Florida A&M University, Bowie State University, and Howard University. Her two adult sons are PGCPS alumni, embodying her lifelong commitment to the community she has helped shape.
